ZIZO—Zoom In Zoom Out

Technical Data

The software is written in Delphi. It is a client server application that is network friendly as it can be configured via the zizo.ini file to source data and optimise band width.

The application communicates with the database via ODBC Express. There is no special requirement in order to use ZIZO. other than CAL’s if you are running SQL server.

ZIZO requires an entry level Pentium processor and Windows XP or better.

Disk space on the server side is low as the bulk of data is made up of documents containing text. Images used as backgrounds for the access filters consume most of the space. A random client survey using 10 companies ranging from medium to large in size revealed database sizes between 500Meg - 2.5Gig.

ZIZO fires up in the following sequence;

Desktop icon when activated locates the application (zread.exe) in the application directory and executes.

It expects the zizo.ini to be located in the application directory and it reads the database details to locate and open the correct database (matches with the database setup in ODBC system DSN.

An error connecting to the database is usually caused when a mapping is lost or access rights have changed. When loading ZIZO onto a new workstation, once the mapped drive can be seen, by running the zread.exe file will autosetup the client’s ODBC and place a desktop icon. If you are running SQL server it is important to authenticate using SQL.

SQL setup must include a DBO user with the same name as the database. Please contact ZSI for the SQL user password.

Once the logon screen appears and the user login accepted then both application and database are OK.

If there is problem that the logon GAF or background images do not display, this is due to an incorrect path statement in the zizo.ini

The ZIZOLite technology is used when the response time across a WAN is not fast. The Lite option provides for data replication to be carried out initially, thereafter the Lite logic continually compares version and change control parameters with the primary server and only transmits data on demand gradually syncing the secondary server. Example : If user on secondary server accesses document 1, the primary server is requested to provide the latest version number which is compared to the local version number, if there is a match then the document is viewed locally, if there is a newer version then the new document is downloaded and viewed.
