Malcolm
Hansen
has been studying martial arts since 1981. He got his
start in Goju Ru Karate under Sensei Stafford Rorke in
Grahamstown. His kung fu training got started later that
year.
In
1987, he was accepted as a student by Grandmaster Su
Chin Miel. It was in this time that Grandmaster Su was
resident in
South Africa
that he learnt the
Southern Lohan
system of Shun Wu Tang. Grandmaster Su has since
returned to
Taiwan
, but is in regular contact with the senior Shun Wu Tang
instructors in
South Africa
. Regular visits are made to
Taiwan
by Shifu Malcolm in order to maintain standards and to
further his kung fu studies.
In
May 1992, Shifu
Malcolm Hansen
was one of five South African instructors invited by the
International Chinese Kuoshu Federation to be qualified
as a Class "A" Referee and Judge
(International level). This intensive International
clinic was hosted by the ICKF in
Taiwan
.
Sifu
Malcolm Hansen
was the only South African Kuoshu judge that was invited
to be an Executive Referee and Judge at both the
official Chinese Kuoshu World Championships in 1992 and
1996.
In
June 2000, Shifu
Malcolm Hansen
was promoted to 5th Degree Black Sash by Grandmaster Su
in
Taiwan
.
In
May 2003, Shifu
Malcolm Hansen
was invited by the International Chinese Kuoshu
Federation to be qualified as a Class "A"
Coach (International level). This intensive
International clinic was hosted by the ICKF in
Taiwan
.
He
was the national coach to the South African team that
attended the 9th World Kuoshu Championships
in
Tainan
Taiwan
in February 2004.
Shifu
Malcolm Hansen
is currently one the Senior Instructors of Shun Wu Tang
in
South Africa
. He is also Chairman of the South African Chinese
Kuoshu Authority. This position has been held since
1997.
