ON GRAVITY
Gravity
Gravity has two basic effects, clumping and orbits.
Everything is spinning
Orbits within orbits
The moon orbits earth, earth/moon orbit the sun, the solar system orbits the centre of the Milky Way.
Einstein and Newton
The difference between Newtonian and Einsteinian gravity.
Newtonian gravity is a direct matter matter interaction. Matter acts on matter. Matter exerts a force on matter. Matter attracts matter.
Einsteinian gravity is matter space interaction. Matter acts on space. Matter curves space. Curved space determines the path of matter. There is no direct matter matter interaction. So matter only interacts indirectly with matter. It is a matter, space, matter interaction.
Wave/particle duality.
Physicists are currently looking for gravitational waves predicted by relativity. Then there are the hypothesized gluon like gravitons needed to incorporate gravity into quauntum mechanics and unify all the forces in a grand unification theory. So gravity seems to have the same kind of wave/particle duality as light. You have photons and gravitons, and light waves and gravitational waves.
The chicken and the egg.
Wherever there is matter there is gravity or wherever there is gravity there is matter. Gravity is a symtom of matter or is matter a symtom of gravity?
MY THEORY ON GRAVITATIONAL WAVES
(Hopefully some physics expert will comment on this.)
To help clarify this theory I would first like to make two points.
1.Infinitely ridged
If you were to hit one end of a long infinitely ridged rod with a hammer, the other end would move at the same instant, in other words 'action at a distance'. This would violate causality which is one reason why the infinitely ridged does not exist. A real rod would compress and expand, allowing a time interval before the other end moved. This time interval would, of course, be longer than the time it would take light to travel the length of the rod, so causality is preserved.
2.If two stones are dropped off a cliff, one after the other, the distance gap between the two, increases as they accelerate and their speed increases. If they are dropped from different heights, with the top one released first and the bottom one released before the top one reaches it, the distance gap between the two would decrease.
GRAVITATIONAL WAVES
Maybe the Equivalence of acceleration and the experience of gravity could be used to show the existence of gravitational waves.
If you are standing in a lift and the lift starts to accelerate, your feet will feel the acceleration before your head does, otherwise causality would be violated. Your feet would start to move before your head would. It would take longer for your head to start moving than it would take light to reach your head from the floor, (or until your head was inside the light bubble or light cone that started at your feet). You would shorten. A compression wave would flow through your body.
In continuous acceleration your feet would always be traveling faster than your head. You would continuously shorten, until you reached the speed of light where you would be infinitely short. There would be continuous compression waves traveling through your body. I would guess these waves to be the equivalent of gravitational waves.
QUANTUM REALITY
The universe is quantized
I don't believe in infinity
You cannot do any maths with infinity. Adding, subtracting, multiplying or dividing become irrelevant when infinity is involved. Infinity is full of paradoxes e.g. 2 times infinity = 5 times infinity therefore 2=5 or the set of all integers is infinite and the set of all even numbers is infinite therefore there are as many even numbers as there are natural numbers or there are as many points on a line segment as there are on the whole line or even an infinite line.
I believe that infinity is a mathematical abstraction, it is not real and does not exist in the universe. (except as a meme in the minds of Homo Sapiens) General relativity and the big bang have done away with infinite space, energy and time, (i.e. the infinitely large) and quantum mechanics has done away with continuity in matter and energy (i.e. the infinitely small). I believe that space and time are also quantized i.e. not continuous.
One divided by infinity equals zero so no particle can be infinitely small, or even an infinitely small fraction larger than infinitely small. It has to have a definite size and mass, therefore matter cannot be continuous because it would then have to be made up of infinitely small particles i.e. zero size/mass particles.(nothing) The same goes for energy and every measurable quantity including time. When pouring water into a glass it does not fill continuously, but rather in measurable steps in measurable time spans.
So matter is made up of discrete quanta that would disappear if divided. The same goes for space and time. Imagine a situation where everything is known in the universe and a clock was built using all this knowledge, (Gods' clock) there would still be a limit to the smallest time span. (Even Gods’ clock goes tick tock.) This would be the smallest possible time span. (Planck time?) A real time span.
This is true for all measurable quantities.
In mathematical theory there are an infinite amount of points in a line segment. So when travelling from point A to point Z a particle would have to go through an infinite series of co-ordinates. In other words it would have to pass through an infinite number of points in a fixed segment of time. Firstly, the distances between points would have to be infinitely small and infinitely small = 0, so in moving from point A to point B it would not have moved at all. Secondly an infinitely small amount of time would have passed i.e.. no time. It is not getting anywhere!
In the line segment AZ we have a choice of an infinite number of points but where does a point's neighbour lie. No matter how close the next point you choose is, there will always be an infinite number of points between. It does not have a real neighbour.
Nothing is continuous in this universe. Continuity is an abstraction, it is unreal and imaginary. Everything is discrete or quantized. Space, time, matter, energy (temperature), absolutely everything.
I believe in a big bang but I do not believe in a point singularity, because a point singularity is infinitely small (no size), therefore it would have to be infinitely dense, infinitely hot? (infinite temperature?), yet have a fixed amount of energy?(the sum of all the energy in the universe) A way out of the point singularity dilemma is curved time.
A problem with causality is infinite regression or the problem of the first cause. The only why out is curved time.
Set theory and infinity
The universe by definition is the set of everything and that set is not infinite. Nothing exists outside the set of everything.
CHAOS
Chaos and coincidence
Order is a coincidence
In any chaotic system there are bound to be pockets of order, or relative order. This universe might just be a pocket of apparent order in the greater chaos.
On closer inspection there is way less order in this universe than most people believe. Colliding galaxies, wobbly orbits, fluctuating magnetic poles, sunspots, ice ages, chaotic weather, earthquakes, flawed crystals, flaws in diamonds, the Heisenberg uncertainty principle, junk genes, genetic mutations, chimaerism, mosaicism, 300 million sperm cells per ejaculation, human society, all signs of an underlying chaos.
In pockets of relative order there can be pockets of higher order, in those pockets maybe even higher order, but you will never find perfect order.
In dynamic chaos order is always temporary.
All that is required is enough relative order for self organizing systems to form. Galaxies and solar systems are self organized, same with molecules, DNA, genes, life and ecosystems. The fact that the cells that we are made of are continuously dying and being replaced is typical of a self organizing system. The fact that we i.e. our bodies and faces, are only pseudo symmetrical, is typical of a self organizing system.
A different order
If the relative order is high enough for intelligence to self organize, that intelligence can engineer a higher level order. This is engineered order, not self organized order. But even the most precisely engineered product is not perfectly ordered.
Self organized systems are much fuzzier than engineered systems.
Chaos and set theory
In chaos you will always find some order. Within the set of chaos are subsets of order. In a random numbers generator you will still get periods where the numbers are in sequence or in a pattern. E.g. 12345678 or 2 4 8 or 01010101 etc. They appear to be non random.
On numbers and coincidence
The size of the universe
Big numbers allow for big coincidences.
Large numbers allow room for very low probability coincidences. Possibilities become probabilities. The larger the numbers the more likely low probability events and coincidences will happen. The larger the numbers the more likely the unlikely.
Life is a coincidence.
The size of this universe is the size a universe has to be to make the spontaneous formation of life very probable.
The size of the universe is such that the probability of self replicating molecules spontaneously forming was very high.
The universe is large enough to make the spontaneously sparking of life and the evolution of consciousness highly likely.
The universe is large enough to allow for the probability of life spontaneously forming and evolving into consciousness.
This universe is one big cauldron of a massively wide range of temperatures, densities, elements etc., but is only life viable in absolutely minute fragments of its’ space/time. Spanning such a massively wide variety of dynamic conditions it is not unreasonable to assume that somewhere, sometime the conditions would be right to spark life.
On extraterrestrial life
Is there anybody out there?
The universe is large enough to allow for the probability of its own consciousness.
Are we the only consciousness in the universe? Possibly but not very probable.
Once a universe is large enough to make the spontaneously sparking of life and the evolution of consciousness highly likely, it is likely to spark more than once. If the conditions are right for life to spark once, it is highly likely to occur more often.
On the multiverse
There is speculation that there might be many universes.
However if there is any influence between universes, any cause and effect, any information exchange, any interaction, anyway of detecting another universe, those other universes would not be separate universes, they would actually be part of this universe, they would be part of a multiverse.
If there are other universes out there they are totally and utterly irrelevant. There is absolutely no way you can prove their existence, so they really don't exist. They can only be imaginary.
Order and chaos
You can find anything in infinite chaos, even a universe.
In real chaos there is some order, otherwise there would have to
be a rule disallowing order and if there was a rule disallowing
order that would not be real chaos.
Phase Transition
This universe exists in a kind of phase transition between chaos and order.
This is especially true for evolution, life and consciousness. Too much order and things stay static, no room for variation, mutation, coincidence and therefore evolution. To much chaos and complex structures will not be stable enough for evolution and consciousness. This universe exists in a thin band with just the right mixture of chaos and order for atoms and elements, stars, planets and galaxies to form. Life and consciousness exists in an even narrower band within that band.
Without randomness the universe would be totally symmetrical and smooth. No galaxies, no stars, no planets, no evolution and no intelligence.
