Welcome to "Emfuleni", our place "By the River".

Situated deep in the Drakensberg, in the centre of the Cathkin valley, you will find yourself surrounded by majestic peaks such as Champagne Castle, Cathkin Peak, Monks Cowl and the Sterkhorn.

Imagine waking up in the morning and, while lying in bed, you look out the window onto the peaks of the Little Berg. You rise to the sound of numerous birds and step out onto the veranda where your lungs fill with fresh mountain air. While you gaze upon the Ndema forest the sound of the river breaks through to your conscious and you become fully aware of the magnitude and beauty of God's creation.

This is the place, by the river - "Emfuleni".

We welcome you here. Rest, relax and be invigorated by your stay. We know that nobody returns from here without having undergone some kind of change, be it physically, spiritually or mentally.

At Emfuleni you could never be bored. Whatever your taste, you will be well catered for. For those who just wish to relax, the peace and serenity of the Berg has been made specially for you. For the serious backpacker there are numerous one, two and three day hikes starting in the area. For the casual hiker there are two, four, and six hour hikes starting from Emfuleni.
Emfuleni is just the place, when you need to dangle your feet in a fresh mountain stream or sip the clear, cool water. Maybe you just want to sit and watch your reflection in the quiet little pools formed off the main stream, or maybe you want to watch a leaf as it rushes by in its quest to find the end of the stream, very much like us, rushing to find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

In the evening you may choose to enjoy a hearty home-cooked meal, or sneak off to one of the local restaurants for a candle lit dinner in the inevitable country atmosphere of the Berg resorts.
Within walking distance is the Drakensberg Sun hotel and within ten minutes drive is the Champagne Sports resort or the Monks Cowl Tavern, each offering its own style of hospitality.
