The ANINKE CENTRE was established in 1999 in Durbanville to allow Children who are Severely Intellectually Challenged to also have the opportunity to be part of a school, as they are unable to attend the “normal” schools. Due to the severity of their disabilities there is no facility in the Northern Suburbs where they can be accommodated. Our aims are to develop these kids to their maximum potential and to train them in the basic life skills of eating, drinking, dressing, communicating, walking, etc. to ensure that they will be able to do as much as possible for themselves in future.
Our long term aim is to establish a centre which would provide in their needs when their parents and immediate family are no longer around to take care of them. With a ratio of one teacher/assistant per two children, this is an expensive centre to run and we need all the support we can get.
Our goals: · To obtain property with proper and permanent accommodation for the children. · To provide individual attention/training with adequate and qualified personnel. (2:1 Child/Trainer ratio) Mornings only. · To obtain our own transport. · To provide an aftercare facility. Afternoons. · To provide overnight facilities and nursing care.
Progress made: · We have secured a 3 bedroom house in Kraaifontein for the next 9 years and need to secure a permanent property before the 9 year lease agreement expires. · We are now open from 07h00 in the morning till 14h00. Unfortunately we had to close the After-Care to 18h00 down in August, due to lack of interest in this additional facility and being too expensive to run. · We now only close down for 3 weeks during the December holidays. Hours currently: 07h00 to 14h00 weekdays only |

Due to the brain damage and epilepsy, some of our kids are extremely restless at night and they must be checked all the time to ensure they are warm, dry and still on/in the bed. As parents, our biggest concern is: “Will somebody do the checking when I am no longer around?” |
